How do I set up my GoChess Robotic board for the first time?
Watch the quick setup video above to see the full first-time setup, or follow the steps below.
Before you start
- A wide, flat and rigid surface. Avoid soft, uneven or slanted surfaces, as they interfere with the robots.
- A smartphone or tablet with a stable internet connection.
- A USB power source and cable.
1. Place the robotic base
Put the robotic base on your table with the yellow markings facing forward.
2. Power on each robot
Use the toggle switch on the bottom of the robot. The robot flashes yellow while it scans for initial positioning. If no lights come on, or the top light blinks red, charge the robot with the USB cable for about an hour and then continue.
3. Position the robots on the base
Place the robot on one of the yellow markings inside the robotic base and adjust it until the light turns steady green. Repeat for every robot you own, and move on only once all of them show steady green.
4. Mount the board
Align the electronic interface of the board with the one on the robotic base, then mount the board.
5. Charge the set
Plug in the USB cable. Keep the board mounted and plugged in so the robots self-charge between uses.
6. Power on the board and install the app
Press the power button on the side of the board, then scan the QR code with your device to open the official GoChess app and install it. You need the app for your first robotic match.
If a robot does not turn steady green
- Check the lighting: strong direct sunlight or poor light can confuse the sensors.
- Re-seat the robot exactly on the yellow marking.
- See "How do I calibrate the robot and what should I check if positioning fails?" for the full checklist.
