GoChess piece capturing
Capturing pieces on GoChess
Each piece has a magnetic base, and the board reads moves through magnetic sensors. A few habits keep those readings accurate.
Moving a piece
Lift it 3–4 cm above the board before moving. Holding it too low can trigger false readings, since the sensors still detect the magnet. Set it down only on its target square.
The one rule for captures
Always lift the captured piece off the board before you set your capturing piece down in its place. If both pieces touch the board at the same moment, the sensors read one continuous magnet and miss the move.
You can do this two ways:
- Lift the captured piece first. As a bonus, the board will highlight which of your pieces can make the capture.
- Lift your capturing piece first, then remove the captured piece, and only then place your piece on the square.
Either order works — what matters is that the captured piece is gone before the capturing piece lands.
